Meet our Newest Producer from the Napa Valley

We are very excited to offer a new, American-made extra virgin olive oil at Specialty Foods Boston.

Grove 45 Extra Virgin Olive Oil is owned and operated in the heart of Napa Valley by mother-daughter duo of Ana and Marcela Hernandez. Originally from Guatemala, the family moved to St. Helena in 2011 and discovered there were hundreds of olive trees on their new property that had been planted in the 1800’s by Charles Krug. Today, the trees have been coaxed back into production after having been neglected for over 70 years.

At Grove 45, pruning happens during the Spring season when it’s time for last year’s growth to be trimmed away. Pruning encourages new shoots, which in turn produce blooms. The olive trees at Grove 45 are wind pollinated and blooms tend to appear anywhere between April and June. Harvest typically occurs from the end of November to early December. And while larger olive oil companies use large equipment to shake their trees, Grove 45 harvests the trees by hand with mechanical rakes. Within 12 hours of harvest the olives are cold pressed.

Bottling occurs once the entire crop has been milled and tested by the California Olive Oil Council for quality and certification. Their unique packaging is made with 100% recycled American aluminum, which protects the oil from degradation from light, heat and oxygen.

The extra care and time put into the vineyards at Grove 45 produces a beautifully consistent flavor of fresh cut grass and sweet green citrus, underlaid with fruit-forward spice. We are proud to offer the following products starting in late December:

2024 Vintage Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Made with Frantoio, Leccino, Maurino, Pendolino, and Nocellara del Belice varieties, this 2024 vintage is medium-bodied with hints of citrus, pine, and artichoke, ending with a robust black pepper finish. A proud recipient of the California Olive Oil Council Seal of Excellence.

18-Year Aged Balsamic Vinegar – We loved how this bottle paired the 2024 vintage extra virgin olive oil – extremely balanced and fruit forward. The perfect structure of sweet and tangy that incorporates flavorful notes of prune and caramel.

Fig Balsamic Vinegar – Blended with Italian figs from Modena, this fruit-forward vinegar is a beautiful combination of savory fig and tart notes of balsamic. Great for dressing vegetables, served on ice cream, or used as a glaze with pork.
